FAQs on Hiver security and privacy
Hiver is built with strict security controls to ensure your data remains private, protected, and accessible only to you.
Privacy and data access
Does anyone at Hiver read my emails?
No one at Hiver reads your emails. Our support team can access specific emails only if you report an issue and explicitly give them permission to view the messages needed to troubleshoot. Without this permission, no Hiver employee can access your emails.
Is my data shared with third parties?
No. Hiver does not share your data with any third party without your explicit consent. Additionally, Hiver also ensures:
- Strict access controls: Any access to customer data is logged, monitored, and restricted to authorized personnel only.
- Vetted sub-processors: Third-party providers such as AWS undergo security and compliance reviews to ensure they meet industry standards.
Data storage and encryption
Does Hiver store my emails?
No, emails shared through Shared Inboxes or Shared Labels are not permanently stored on Hiver’s servers. While syncing an email between Gmail accounts, we temporarily hold an encrypted copy for up to 1 hour. This temporary data is automatically deleted as soon as syncing is complete.
We store only the message IDs and, in some cases, the email subject line. This limited metadata is essential for syncing and deduplication across accounts. No email bodies or attachments are stored long-term.
Does Hiver store my Google password?
No. Hiver never sees or stores your password. When you sign in, you enter your credentials directly with Google. Authentication happens via OAuth, which grants Hiver secure, limited access without ever exposing your password to us.
We will never ask you for your Google password.
How is my data encrypted?
Hiver uses industry-standard encryption to protect your data at all stages.
- Encryption in transit: All communication between Hiver and Google happens over TLS-encrypted connections.
- Encryption at rest: All data stored within Hiver systems is encrypted using AES-256, one of the strongest encryption standards in the industry.
